Located in Quintana Roo, Tulum is only one hour from Playa Del Carmen and 25 minutes from Akumal. Luckily, the city is located along the same highway from the airport in Cancun which makes getting there very easy for you and your guests.
There are soo many reasons to want to get married in Tulum. The city is know for it's beautiful beaches and well preserved ruins. Between the amazing food, the undeniably amazing views, and the culture - Tulum is a hot spot for so many to want to celebrate their marriage here. Tulum is split up into 2 main sections; the town and the beach strip. The town is home to many locals, delicious food, and is right on the route to get into the city and to get to the ruins. The beach strip is where most of the venues are located and lots of beautiful shops & beachfront restaurants / bars. Most of the venues are an easy walk to other activities making it an easy vacation for you and your guests in the days before and after your wedding day! Firstly you need to decide if you are wanting to get legally married in the United States or in Mexico. I usually recommend to go to the courthouse before your wedding to get a marriage license in the states, This makes the legal process of getting married in Mexico easier. Here is how:
You and your partner must obtain a marriage license from a local county clerk's office in the state where you reside. Requirements for obtaining a marriage license vary by state but generally include presenting valid identification (such as passports or driver's licenses) and paying a fee.
Have a Civil Ceremony in the USA: You must legally marry through a civil ceremony performed by a judge, justice of the peace, or other authorized officiant in the USA. The officiant will sign and file the marriage license with the county clerk's office to officially register your marriage.
Legalization of Marriage Certificate for Use in Mexico: Once you are legally married in the USA, you may need to have your marriage certificate apostilled or legalized by the Secretary of State in the state where the marriage took place. This ensures that the document is recognized internationally.
Requirements for the Wedding Celebration in Mexico: While the legal aspect of your marriage is handled in the USA, you can plan and host your wedding celebration in Mexico. The requirements for hosting a wedding celebration in Mexico typically involve working with a local venue or wedding planner to coordinate logistics such as venue booking, accommodations, catering, and other details related to the celebration itself.
Considerations: It's advisable to check with the specific venue in Mexico where you plan to have your celebration, as they may have their own requirements or recommendations for hosting weddings. Additionally, communicating with local authorities or a wedding planner in Mexico can help ensure that your celebration complies with local regulations and traditions.
